So many different genres involved, it’s one of the best albums I’ve heard in a while. If you have Spotify or something similar, or want to buy it, give it a listen. The album is called “A Sailor’s Guide to Earth”.

His cover of
In Bloom
for your time:
It’s written as a letter to his son, so it is an interesting concept that turned out incredible.

This is awesome!
Simpson can do no wrong.

I would agree, but I really wish he would re-release his old Sunday Valley stuff.

He’s a bit weird when it comes to that stuff. I think he’d rather just do what he wants rather than be shoehorned into one style.

From everything I’ve read, he seems to be a perfectionist, and that is pulled the Sunday Valley stuff, because it wasn’t good enough. I love the grit of that stuff though.

He also doesn’t want to be put up on a pedestal as a “New Country” Messiah.
I’m still green to his stuff. I just started listening to him last year after a performance on Prarie Home Companion.

I've had the album on repeat all day. Probably been through it 8 or 10 times. Each time I find something new I like.

I’m pretty sure that is why he created this album, so people would stop making comparisons.

That’s kind of what it sounds like.

I’m glad people didn’t stop. I love the Motown/Shoals feel to a lot of the songs. I love the horns and strings.

I’m with you there. That’s why I still listen to a lot of mid 70s stuff. Many of the songs had brass, strings and keyboard that made for a great sound.
